A very wholesome read although I still think The Girl of the Limberlost is a bit better, if only because it has more character development and story. It takes you from the days leading up to the Apocalypses and then to the years trying to bring about a recovery. I hope my review helps. However, I wish they had given the recipes in the description. The ending is bittersweet but quiet satisfying and there are great nuggets of wisdom blended thought the book.
This was written from an embedded war correspondent's perspective. It was an interesting read, but I got tired of hearing all allied successes attributed to courage and good planning; while all failures attributed to bad luck.
